Fun Graphic Design Project

Old photos

Old photos restored and put into a framed collage

I just recently finished up a graphic design project I've been working on for a client. Just thought I'd share what we're capable of here at Sorensen Studios!

I took all of her old photos (first photo) and made them into a collage (second photo). The framed 10x20 print you see here is featured in a black frame with acrylic and 1/4 foam backing.

If you are interested in hiring Sorensen Studios for your next photography/artwork project, give us a call or email today at: 641.343.7110 or sorensenstudios@yahoo.com

Flag of Honor

As I was going through the mail at the studio today, I came across a package. I didn't recognize the name but I was curious to see what was inside. It was a flag, not the kind of flag I'm used to seeing on a regular business around here but a "Flag of Honor." It was sent to us from a woman named, Kelly. It reads:

"This flag is created from the names of those who perished in the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Now and forever it represents their immortality. We shall never forget them."

We were honored to display it in our studio in memory of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Thanks again, Kelly for sending this to us.

God bless the victims of the 9/11 tragedy and their families.

The north side of the 2010 Freedom Rock was featured on the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs booklets. The booklet is a State and Federal Benefits guide for Veterans and Departments. It offers brief descriptions and access to the wide range of benefits and services offered to Veterans and their family members by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the State of Iowa.

We were happy to be a part of this project and would like to thank the Veterans Affairs of Iowa for contacting us. Anytime we are able to help our Veterans-we are honored to do so. Booklets are available for free at Sorensen Studios in Greenfield, IA or simply visit: https://va.iowa.gov

Slumber Party Pics

So this was a fun one for us...Slumber Party Pics! When we showed up to do these photos, it was a complete surprise for these girls. The grandmother to one of the girls or the host of the party, wanted to have us document the occasion since they all don't live in the same town and would be having this fun little get together-what a great idea! They seemed to really enjoy it and I gotta say I had some trouble focusing when I spotted all of their snacks they had! Here are a few of our favorite shots...to view the whole album, just visit: www.sorensenstudios.us, click on the "client" tab and type in slumberparty.

If you would like to schedule Sorensen Studios to photograph your next event, just shoot us an email at sorensenstudios@yahoo.com or call us at 641.343.7110.

Indie's Hidden Love Note

A few months back I posted this story about how I couldn't wait for this year's hidden love note from Bubba-well move over Maria-our baby-to-be, Indie gets a love note too! It was so cute and melted my heart. Bubba posted it on the Freedom Rock Facebook Page yesterday. You can view it here. Can't wait to add this one to the baby book!

I feel so lucky to have been part of The Freedom Rock project for the past eight years. All of the people we have met have really become like family to us and it's been a unique experience. It makes you feel really good knowing we have such a strong and loving military-I hope you all know how much we appreciate your services!

We can't wait for our little "Indie" to be a part of it all too. We already have everyone asking if they get to meet her next year on Memorial Day-of course she'll be there!

Children's Rock Artwork

We had a teacher ask if Bubba would take a look at some fellow artist's own little "Freedom Rocks". We snapped a photo with Bubba standing beside their artwork in the studio and sent it to the class. The teacher said they really got a kick out of knowing "the artist of The Freedom Rock" looked at their drawings. Too cute-thank you all for your support and we're glad you're so interested in sharing our love for supporting our nation's heroes!

It's been awhile...

Hello Bloggers:

So sorry it's been awhile since I last wrote but it's not due to lack of ambition-we've been VERY busy! Of course we were trying to finish up The Freedom Rock project at the end of May, which was an amazing turn out at The Rock on Memorial Day. Thank you all so much for your support.

We were also trying like mad to get Teresa's School of Dance pictures out to clients in time for recital. Luckily, we did accomplish this, even with the Rock going on-phew! I've posted a few of those, and trust me when I say a few of the very, very many! We had a great time this year again, thanks Teresa for your support! p.s. Loved the Red, White & Blue costumes...I'm thinking we could have shot out at the Rock. :-)

In the midst of dance pictures and The Freedom Rock we also shot Confirmation and First Communion Pictures. I love that we have such a wide range of photography that we do. It really keeps my life interesting! Here are few shots from those events. Enjoy!

I will try not to "crash blog" in the future. Hopefully I can throw our projects up as we're working on them-no guarantees though; we've got three different weddings to edit so far and the summer has only begun, I'm so excited to get those out to our brides. OH and I almost forgot, Bubba has been contacted about some of the coolest artwork jobs lately, ranging from locations in Arizona, Des Moines and right here in Greenfield. I'll post more about that soon.

A peak behind the scenes...

Bubba snapping our bride & groom getting hitched!

Testing our lighting for formals.

Bubba getting that "perfect shot".

Taking a little rest...

Here are few shots of us photographing a wedding last weekend (one of the three this month!!). I thought these were interesting because it gives our clients a look behind the camera and through our point of view. And yes there are a few just for fun shots too, like the one where Bubba caught me taking a little rest-hey I'm carrying some extra weight these days! =)

As I'm going through our memory cards, I'm finding so many pictures that I love from the day. I'll be sure to show some of those soon...I have no idea how I'm going to choose, it was such a beautiful day!

I also wanted to document this because there are now three of us working at these weddings, including our little, Indie. I thought it'd be fun to show her one day what we did while I was pregnant with her-maybe she'll be a natural born photographer or painter-haha.

We're now gearing up for a wedding in Le Mars all weekend. Should be another good one. We'll see you soon Dustin & Katie

Tour Bus 6/1/11

Photo by Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II, Sorensen Studios
We had a great group of people at The Freedom Rock and Sorensen Studios today. And by great, we not only mean they were a wonderful bunch to visit with but there were a lot of them! As you can see from the picture, we had a full one today!

Thank you all for visiting The Freedom Rock and our studio. We appreciate your support.

Joni Galanakis-Lite 104.1's Outstanding Women You Should Know!

I wanted to share the article about my mom, Joni Galanakis. I nominated her for one of Lite 104.1's Outstanding Women You Should Know and she was selected as one of the women of this contest for 2011. This doesn't surprise me one bit as she is one of the strongest people I know and is always helping others out whenever she can. Glad she is getting some recognition for it, although, as you can imagine, she isn't too thrilled about the spot light being on her. Oh well! :-)

*Special thanks to Lite 104.1 for holding this celebration for Outstanding Women and Congratulations to the other recipients!
