Fashion Photography with Haylee

Meet Haylee...she likes having her photo taken and I like taking photos: which is why we're best friends. Well OK, so that's not why we're best friends. Actually, we've known each other practically since we were babies. Our mother's shared the luxury of being pregnant with us at the same time and we were born only 11 days apart!

I had the privilege of taking Haylee's pictures this week. I asked her to stop by the studio so I could "experiment" some new ideas with my camera/studio. Needless to say, I was happy with the results... and so was she. It's not every day you get to photograph someone who cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs!

Anyway, I just wanted to show our clients the capabilities we have here at Sorensen Studios Photography.
We have lots in store for you in 2011...so keep checking back here at our blog to stay updated!

To view more of Haylee's photos, go to our website: www.sorensenstudios.us, click on the "client" tab and type in haylee2011.

Have a Blessed New Year!

Maria

p.s. Haylee-in case you're wondering...the answer is yes, when you're famous, I will continue to take your photos...Bruce Weber who?

2010 Artwork by Bubba

As I promised, here are some pictures of the artwork Bubba completed in time for our clients to hand out at Christmas. I think he did an amazing job and I know that our clients thought so as well!

I also wanted to point out his little "love notes" he snuck into his artwork. Sometimes I can find them on my own and sometimes I have to beg him to show me where he put them.

I've gone ahead and made it real easy for you to find them-so you're not searching and searching! I'm starting to get really good at finding them myself, but sometimes it's just too hard.

Anyway, Enjoy!

If you're interested in hiring Bubba for artwork please contact the studio at 641.343.7110 Ext. 714 or email at sorensenstudios@yahoo.com

In Memory of Yai-Yai

I just wanted to thank my friends, family and husband for all of their thoughts and prayers during a tough time in our lives.
Last week, we lost a very important person, our Yai-Yai. For those of you that don't know, that's Greek for grandmother. Although she lived in Greece and we didn't get to see her as often as we'd like, I do have the best memories traveling to Greece with my family and visiting her and Pa-pou (grandfather). They always treated us so kind when we visited as young children all the way up to our adult hood. And I am honored to be named after my Yai-yai Maria.

At 86 years old she traveled all the way from Greece to attend my husband and I's wedding, giving us the most beautiful cross necklaces. I thought I'd share some of the precious floral arrangements from all of the special people I'm so lucky to have in my life.

Also, this painting was done by none other than my talented husband, Bubba in memory of Yai-yai. This picture resembles her so much that it's almost like looking right at her! Although we could not attend her funeral service, we had our own special memorial for her and it wouldn't have been possible with out all of you, so thank you.

Love you all,

Maria

Slipknot & The Freedom Rock®

Check out the blog article in the Des Moines Register by Kyle Munson. It's about Slipknot's Chris Fehn visiting Sorensen Studios and The Freedom Rock®. Wow, were we honored to have a guest like Chris at the studio!

We would like to thank Kyle & Andrea of The Des Moines Register for taking time out of their (I'm sure) busy schedule and sitting down to talk with us. It was a pleasure visiting with them and it's nice to see their creative works in the making; definitely talented people there!

Also don't forget to cast your vote for what Iowa tourist attraction Slipknot should visit next!

Lots of photographs are going out the door this week as Christmas presents. Just thought we'd show you our unique gift packaging which makes it so you don't even have to wrap your present-how easy is that!?

It's still not too late to bring the family by and snap your photos and make it back before Christmas! The best part is, we've got a nice cozy indoor studio for our clients-so there will be no making you brave it in this chilly weather. If you bring the hot cocoa we'll bring the s'mores and let's have a party!

New Studio Painting

If you've been by Sorensen Studios lately, you may have noticed some new exterior artwork. Check out Bubba's Christmas tribute on the south side of the studio.

Of course it wouldn't be Bubba's artwork if it wasn't some how patriotic. I just love the snow man is saluting the American Flag with a yellow ribbon as his scarf. And if you really like this painting-it's even available in it's own Christmas Card

If you are interested in hiring Bubba for an original painting/mural or graphic design, please contact Sorensen Studios at 641.343.7110 ext. 1 or email us at sorensenstudios@yahoo.com.

Want to purchase the "Patriotic Snow Man Cards" and live out of town/state? No problem-we can send them to you. Just give us a call!

SCC Barn Sign

Check out some new artwork that was done right here at Sorensen Studios. Bubba designed and painted this logo for some clients of ours. After finishing the logo on the computer, Bubba then hand painted it onto their boards provided and the clients then mounted it to their barn. We think it turned out awesome-and this wasn't printed out from a sign machine people-it came straight out of our artist's paint brush!

4th "Veterans Day" Appearance

Our 4th and final "Veterans Day" appearance of 2010 was at the Lions of Iowa District 9SW Convention. We were treated to a very nice supper and greeted by so many American Patriots and Veterans.

Bubba spoke to the crowd about The Freedom Rock® and his efforts in supporting America's Veterans; which the Lions Club should applaud itself for as well! Especially, Ardie Klemish, might I add. She and her husband, Ken, dedicate much of their time in support of our military men and women. We would like to thank them for inviting us to be a part of their special night.

Also-check out their district pin which features "The Freedom Rock®" on it. If you would like to purchase one, please contact Ardie Klemish at:
kanda@iowatelecom.net
Proceeds directly benefit America's service men and women.

3rd "Veterans Day" Appearance

Our 3rd Veterans Day Appearance was in Maryville, Missouri at the
Maryville Middle School.
Bubba spoke to a group of middle school students and staff. It was by far one of the most well behaved group of schools we have visited in awhile-you all should be very proud! They had great questions and seemed to be very genuinely interested in The Freedom Rock®. But most importantly they were very appreciative of our Nation's Heroes-just who we love to speak to!

Thanks again you Spoofhound'ers!

2nd Veterans Day Appearance

Our second appearance was no where other than at The Freedom Rock®. We planned on adding five different Viet Nam Veterans ashes to the north side on Veterans Day. One veterans ashes being added had family present but the rest were sent to us from all over the country. Here are a few pictures of the event.

For those of you that don't know, in 2006 while Bubba was re-painting The Freedom Rock®, some Viet Nam Veterans stopped by on their way to the wall in D.C. and had the remains of some fellow Viet Nam brothers. They asked Bubba if they could sprinkle the ashes at the base of the rock in which Bubba replied, "They will just blow away. Why don't you just pour them into my paint and I will put them directly on The Freedom Rock® and they will be there forever". Ever since then we receive requests from all over to put their loved ones on the "Viet Nam Tribute" (north side) of The Freedom Rock®; making it a true memorial.

What an amazing experience that was to watch as Bubba took the ashes, poured them into his green paint and spread them onto The Freedom Rock® with his paint brush. There were definitely some tears gathering in my eyes especially as I glanced at the family who were completely silent.

P.S. In the middle of all this, a woman came with more ashes in hopes that we would be at The Freedom Rock® so she could add her fallen soldiers on a special Veterans Holiday. We ended up adding 7 different veterans ashes that day.

IWD Veterans Career Fair

I'm trying to catch up with all of the exciting things we have been doing this month. As you know-November is a busy month for us with Veterans Day being in the middle of it! We had four appearances in less that 48 hours this year. I'll s tart with the first appearance we had-Iowa Work Force's Veterans Career Fair. Bubba was the key note speaker and we ran into some dear friends at the event.

Pictured is (left to right) Glenda Johnson, Kathy McDole-Parkins, Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II, and Heather Sanderson; all three of them are the family of Glenn McDole. Click here to read his amazing true story. It will definitely touch you! P.S. Check out their new "The Freedom Rock® Hoodies".

Special thanks to Jeff Johnson/IWD for having us.

More Senior Photos!

Thought I'd share some products from one of our recent senior shoots. Crista's pictures were really creative and different-which we think came through so well on her 5x5 Photo Book and Custom Cover Disc Case. Which by the way holds all of her photos to print wherever she wants!
All of our products are custom designed to make sure we represent you-not what everyone else is doing. απολαύσει! That by the way means "enjoy" in Greek!

We love Holiday Walk-Inners...

So any of you who know me can attest that I really like to be prepared and plan for things. I mean why else wouldn't we have kids yet right? hehe

Anyway-I'm starting to get what we call the "Holiday Walk-Ins" which consist of people frantically realizing the summer and fall seasons have flown by and Christmas is only weeks away.
We find them rushing into the studio, asking to get their pictures taken right here and now. Normally I like to take extra time to prepare for my shoots and make them as unique as possible...but don't worry-I have found a way to do that off the top of my head after my third year of Christmas rushes! So bring it on you "Holiday Walk-Inners"...it's not a word, so don't look it up.

And the great thing is-you get all your images on a disc, so making Christmas cards is a breeze...no one will ever even know you procrastinated when we get your pictures back so quick and you can print them WHEREVER!

Stop by Sorensen Studios and we'll fix you right up. After all, that is what we're here for: set hours every week, ready to assist you. Not after our other real job gets done, or when we get back to calling you...but NOW because this is our real job! The studio is waiting for you (seriously I just cleaned it today and I like people to notice).

Here are some pictures from one of our walk-ins today. See it's as easy as going to a drive through and grabbing a shake and fries...except you won't gain weight coming to us. Unless you start working here...then you'll find we walk over to Kum & Go/Caseys various times a day for sodas and candy bars.

Hidden Love Note

Bubba just finished a drawing for one of our clients...and I found his hidden love note in this one!

The drawing is a dedication for the client's family. All of them served and the hearts are very sentimental to her. We hope you enjoy it!
