Seniors Seniors Seniors

OK wow, sorry for my absence in blogging. Well actually as my friend would say sorry-not sorry! :-)
I've been working from home as I take care of our precious baby girl Indie. But that doesn't mean I don't put in some serious man hours whenever she's peacefully dreaming away. Of course though when I feel like it-work is put away and I give all my attention to her because after all family is most important! I hope you all do the same from time to time.

Anyways, I've managed to keep my promise to my seniors which was to have pictures done and products back before Thanksgiving...so I thought I'd share their sessions with you all; ya know to think about for next year unless you're a procrastinator and still need to get Senior pictures...

This is a crash blog of Austin, Jonah & Eric's photography products. To view all of their photos and see what a full #seniorsession with Sorensen Studios is like, visit our website: www.sorensenstudios.us, click on the "client" tab and type in the passwords below:

Megan's Core Project (Belly Art Therapy)

OK so ya'll remember this post from awhile back... "My Baby Bump & The Rock"? Well I told you when I knew more I would update you. So I would like to direct you to my friend, Megan's new blog titled "Core Project - Belly Art Therapy.

I think it is wicked cool and this girl is so amazingly creative and talented! I feel so blessed she was once our wedding photographer; we have learned so much from her. Not to mention we still LOVE our photos.

Anyways, check it out...my/Indie's picture is number 36 (which is really weird by the way considering that's my favorite number).

I wish her the absolute best on this project and I hope you all have a chance to stop by and see this creative work in the making... I mean seriously, some of the thought behind these photos is just brilliant.

Thank you Megan for letting me be a part of this and I hope to see you again soon!

Manolis & John

Here are some photos of my adorable little nephews, Manolis & John. John was just born at the end of August, so him and Indie will be school mates one day! :-) I love that we have both of our families in the area so our children can all be close-after all family is everything!

Manolis is so proud to be a big brother and was showing his sibling lots of love in these photos...

Lund Kids!

This session was pre-baby and I do so appreciate Teresa's (mom) patience with me getting the photos back to her! Bubba and I had a lot of fun photographing these three bubbly kids! They gave us exactly what we like-realness! I love when children can just be themselves and we capture them doing it. Some of these photos literally make me laugh out loud-like the one when the brother, is holding his head in his hands and the sisters are being crazy in the back ground-sibling love!

To check out this whole photo session, please visit: www.sorensenstudios.us, click on the "client" tab and type in 91611.

And for those of you wondering, I'm slowly climbing back to work...Senior Sessions tomorrow, along with an upcoming wedding. To schedule photos, please give us a call or email us: sorensenstudios@yahoo.com or 641.343.7110. I'll get back to you at my earliest convenience-thanks!

My Baby Bump & the Rock

This past week or so I got a phone call from a good friend of ours, Megan. She actually photographed our wedding and not only has given us amazing photography pointers, but more importantly, advice on how to actually make a real business out of it!

So when she asked if she could borrow my baby bump for a project she was working on-of course I said yes! Then she told me she wanted to take pictures at The Freedom Rock...to which I thought, "Well OK why not!?". Then she dropped another funky idea-"And I want Bubba to paint on your belly to blend in with the Rock."

Now my mind started thinking-"What in the world is she up to!?" But Bubba and I are usually up for anything creative so we were way excited! Here is a picture Bubba snapped of Megan doing her thing. I hope to get to view the pictures soon and I will share them once I do. It was so much fun seeing her work and I know the photographs are going to be amazing-just like our wedding pictures were! Oh and yes, the paint on my belly was completely safe for baby... ;-)

A little background on what Megan is doing: she's photographing all kinds of baby bumps at unique locations and plans on putting a book together; kind of like a women's/mother empowerment thing. I'm sure I'm not explaining this as great as she can but once I get some more details from her and she finishes the project, I will definitely share more!

Thanks again, Megan. It was great seeing you and I wish you the best of luck with all the exciting things you have in your future!

It's getting close!

Wanted to share some of the preparation we've been doing for our little one on the way. Bubba's been busy finishing the paintings & murals in her room whenever he gets some free time. And let me tell you-these days, it's not a lot! He's been booked with murals and artwork and well since I'm getting bigger by the day, he's been stepping in as the main photographer, too.

Below is a little collage of Indie's room. It makes me so excited to meet her and bring her home! We didn't really go with a theme, as Bubba said, he just sort of painted what came to him. And I don't think it could have turned out any better! It's an assortment of little birds, monkeys, butterflies and other fun/girly stuff hidden and painted throughout her room. Some of them are above or below a window or even behind a door; we're hoping it makes it very fun for her!

He held onto his tradition of hiding his own little messages, too. Her initials are hidden in the tree and also the orange butterfly has the word "DAD" in its wings. I know she'll have fun finding these messages when she starts to grow up-but hopefully not too fast! :-)

We also found some free time one Sunday to shoot my maternity pictures. Bubba did a great job and it's just the way I would have shot them; very simple and natural! We put the camera on a tripod and self timer for the photos that include us both; that was interesting trying to get "the shot!" To view all of the pictures, visit www.sorensenstudios.us, click on the "client" tab and type in: 9511 Although, I did share a good chunk of them here...I got a little excited!

Just a few more weeks and we'll be sharing some pictures of our newest addition, Independence June Sorensen!

Family from Greece

Right now our family from Greece is visiting for the wedding reception of my brother, Mario and sister-in- law, DeNae. Visiting is my aunt, Angela and her granddaughter well...Angela (it's a Greek thing).

Neither speak English all that well but I think they're enjoying their time here! My dad's family all still lives on the island of Crete; where they farm olive trees. My brothers and I were all baptized there and have many fond memories of visiting from our childhood. I can't wait to go back some day (hopefully soon) and of course when little Indie comes along and grows up a bit-we'll take her too! Also-totally dying to take a professional camera along this time. My little disposable cameras from when I was younger didn't quite do the land justice! ;-)

Anyway, I asked my mom to bring by little Angela by the studio to get some pictures. She was so excited and I gotta say we really had a fun time together! My Greek isn't the greatest these days but hey-that didn't stop the photos from being amazing! Check em out-below are a few of my favorites. To view all of her photos, just visit www.sorensenstudios.us, click on the "client" tab and type in 83011. By the way, I haven't seen this girl since she was as baby-my has she grown!

p.s. love the she wanted a picture with the American Flag...of course we had no problem finding one of those around the studio!

Faust Family

Hello Bloggers!

Sorry about our absence but we've been so busy with shoots, we haven't really had time to blog about it.
Now that we've caught up, well as much as possible anyway, I'm ready to show you what we've been up to. Also-please keep in mind I've been trying to accomplish everything with a very active baby constantly jabbing at my stomach and punching my bladder... ;-) Oh how I do love it though!

Below is a shoot we recently photographed featuring The Faust Family. We really had a great time with them and hope they did as well. I kept telling them that for such a large bunch, they were making my job a breeze as their children were so sweet! Sure we had to make some goofy faces and hold a toy parrot here and there but that's just an every day thing here at Sorensen Studios!

Please click on the photo to view a larger image/more info. As you can see, they received many beautiful products with their photography package including our Drift Wrap (comes ready to hang-no framing needed!), 5x7 Photo Book and Customized Disc featuring all of their photos from the shoot. Jensen Wedding

I wanted to share some of my favorite shots from one of the weddings we just finished up. The Bride, Sindra picked up her products yesterday and it made my day seeing how excited she was! I gotta say, this was one of the cutest, quaintest, most intimate weddings I had been to in awhile. You've got to check out what I'm talking about by visiting www.sorensenstudios.us, click on the "client" tab and type in 62111 to view all of the photos from their wedding day. 2011 Governor's Charity Steer Show

Here are a few photos from the 2011 Governor's Charity Steer show at the Iowa State Fair on Friday, August 13th. The steers were immediately sold at auction and proceeds went to the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa, which as raised more than $1.7 million. Just thought we'd share a few pics, including the painting Bubba donated in order to help raise some extra funds. Thanks again to the Solsma family for asking Bubba to be their celebrity showman!

August Family Photo Shoot

Murals, Graphic/Logo Design, Signs...we do it all!

Check out this awesome artwork project by our artist, Bubba. The clients were my parents, who for the past 20 years have owned and operated The Old Hotel Restaurant  in Greenfield, Iowa. Recently, they moved out of the old hotel building (which is being renovated into a fully functional hotel for you out of state Freedom Rock visitors!) and moved next door. This presented a great opportunity for re-branding. My dad, John Galanakis, grew up on the island Crete which is part of Greece. Dad and his family planted olive trees and harvested olives...something our family still practices over there. My family came up with "Olive Branch Family Restaurant" for the name of their new place...incorporating Dad's Greek heritage. Bubba took that name and created a log, business cards (printed by Sorensen Studios), an olive family tree mural, a mural using their new logo, and an outdoor sign. Make sure to stop in and enjoy the delicious food and unique Greek atmostphere...and tell them Bubba & Maria sent you!

*If you are interested in hiring Bubba for your next mural/artwork project, or graphic/logo design, give us a call or email today at 641.343.7110 or sorensenstudios@yahoo.com We provide free estimates!

Optimist Club Photography

About a week ago I was asked to participate in a unique opportunity involving the Greenfield Optimist Club. They asked if I could take some pictures for their achievements in gaining quite a few new members in their club. I was excited to help and was so very glad when I found out my photographs were being used in an email that was sent to over 20,000 leaders across the US, Canada, and the Caribbean. They will also be used in a magazine article. To all the photographers out there-take advantage of unique opportunities like this and get your name out there whenever you can! It's also nice to help support local organizations/clubs. Thanks again for thinking of me, Gary, Sharon & Kai.

Below is the article/email:

Gary and Sharon Miner recruit 20 Friends in town of 2000. Photos by Sorensen Studios.
"It ain't gonna happen in Greenfield!"
...but it did
Because Gary and Sharon Miner chose to be "in the arena," they made it happen.

Population 2000
When Gary and Sharon Miner heard about Optimist International President Danny Rodger's challenge to recruit twenty Friends of Optimists between July 1st and September 30th, Sharon's first thought was, "It ain't gonna happen in Greenfield."  Her second thought was, "Why not?"

Well, Have I Got a Deal for You
Gary and Sharon set out to share Optimism with their community with no pressure and no holds barred either.  Sharon describes her style, "I know that you might not have the time to fully participate in our Club's activities. Well, do I have a deal for you." That's Sharon's icebreaker.  "I'm going to tell you about a type of Membership our Optimist Club has, and you can say 'no'."  Sharon comments, "I think it put them at ease so they could know I wasn't going to pressure them into anything."  Sharon mentions that, "of course some people did say no, and that's ok."  This approach disarms anxiety on both sides.  Remove the pressure, and it makes it easier for Optimists to ask and for the potential Friend to say yes.

Burgeoning Achievement
Gary Miner emailed other Clubs in his District stating the Greenfield Optimist Club's burgeoning achievement,
You should all know about President Danny's challenge to Clubs... I'm challenging you also... I can tell you, this isn't hard. Greenfield (population just under 2000) has signed up 11 new Friends since this past Tuesday.  We plan to have the final 9 by the end of next week... If you put your Club name on the application form, you get $40 back for each Friend.  Do the math, that is $800 for your Club... Friends also count toward your growth goals for being Honor Club...

Two Weeks
Two weeks and twenty Friends later, the Greenfield, Iowa community has a heightened awareness of its local Optimist Club, the support of twenty more people, and a sense of anticipation of good things to come for the youth.
